By far the most uncomfortable boots I have ever worn in my life. I can’t put on anymore mink oil. Tight around the foot, no cushion for the feet. Tried putting in an insert but them my foot wouldn’t fit inside the boot. I’ve tried wearing these a couple time and they are killing me. In fact I am attempting once more right now. Which is why I’m writing this. Going to be a long day at work. 2 stars because of material quality. Thanks Red Wing

Nice Old-World Construction, But No Arch Support and Not Enough Room for Most Inserts

I really, really want to like these boots. They seem well constructed (though there's also a number of stories on the web about premature failure of these boots, or not being able to wear them everyday because of moisture concerns, etc).

However, they have zero arch support, and inserts like "SuperFeet" and even "thin" inserts available at sporting good stores add too much height in the heel, lifting your heel out of the "cup" area, making it painful. There is no existing removable insole (expected). Without the arch-support, I gave myself a pretty horrendous case of achilles tendonitis and some significant heel pain (planar fasciitis type). This was just with minor walking (ie, grocery store, and walking from my car to my desk) for about a week.

My last ditch effort to save thee boots are some "arch inserts" that only support the arch without adding any cushioning anywhere else in the boot.

I looked at these boots because of their "classic construction"/GoodYear welt, etc, but the comfort so far is disappointing. I knew they would take extended break-in, and I hope to do that, assuming I can get some arch support into the boot, otherwise they're useless to me. My past boots have been Timberland Pro-series (3 pair), Keen, Asolo (hiking), Vasque (hiking), and USAF standard issue leather combat boots. All except the Keens are 100% leather uppers, and none of them caused me any foot issues. Some people refer to the Iron Rangers online as "fashion boots", though it's hard to imagine how "Iron Ranger" translates into fashion.

I think the bottom line is that if you are sure you need no arch support and have zero foot problems, and you aren't looking for the utmost in comfort, these might be worth looking at. If you are looking for comfortable boots or boots that can definitely accept inserts, these are probably not what you're looking for. (In fairness, some people claim these boots are very comfortable once broken-in.)

I wanted to like these boots but unfortunately I can not.

I've always bought my shoes in D width but these are a bit narrow in front of the midsole (heel) and the second set of stitching in front of the heel presses again the side of the foot, this doesn't hurts but makes it uncomfortable. I wore them for a month hoping the boot would stretch a bit and mold to my foot as others have stated and they did a bit but that stitching is still an annoyance. Perhaps for me, a wide sizing would have been better but its too late for that.

Regardless of fit issues, I would not buy these boots again because they are not good for winter weather. The cold just seeps through the soles which i've never experienced in any other shoe. Sneakers or dress shoes would have been warmer. Also, theres no traction on snow or ice.

There was a QC issue on my left boot. Nothing major, just a finishing issue. The side of the sole on the left boot was not smoothed out like it was on the right boot. I didn't even notice it till a day or two later so at that point the boots were worn and I probably couldn't return them. I probably wouldn't have returned them if I had noticed it before wearing them anyways.

The boots do look awesome. The materials and construction used are quality.

Shoes were very comfy (ordered 1/2 size down) but the toe cap on the right boot was a different color than any other leather on either boot. I am sending them back and wI'll reorder.

I wanted these for some good, causal work boots. I like the style and the amber color, so I was excited to order them. I typically wear a size 12. Based on the reviews, I ordered a size 11.5 since I heard they run large. My foot was swimming in them. They were absurdly large.

I returned them and ordered a full size down, an 11, hoping this would work.

When they arrived, they already looked like they had been roughed up a bit. There was no wear on the sole so they weren't pre-worn, but it was clear they had not been handled gently in the factory or at packaging. No worries, these were work boots so that wouldn't matter. However, when I tried them on, they were again absurdly large. Far to wide and still too long at a full size below my normal. It was like I was getting clown shoes.

I gave up.

I say, if you've got a square foot and need something very, very wide in the toe area, order these at least a full size down and hope for the best. Otherwise, forget them unless you can try them on in person. I love the look, but I can't imagine who these fit well.
