With an intriguing cover that depicts a mysterious man leaving a dark space, Truth is a book immediately drew me in. This novel begins with a serendipitous meeting between Henry, a young professional who was enjoying his lunch alone while people-watching at Regent’s Park, and Bernard, an older man with an enthusiasm for a poet called Keats. Although Henry was initially reluctant to share even a small part of his lunch break with this stranger, he couldn’t help but feel a growing sense of intrigue with what this man had to say.

This short novel is written from the perspective of the four antagonists, which makes each chapter a joy to read. The engaging writing style and unique storyline make this book a compelling read.

British author Simon Bardwell (a nom de plume) lives in London and travels to Australia frequently. His books to date – SPINDRIFT, BREAKFAST AT BREWER STREET, and now TRUTH. His ability to fuse ‘ordinary people’ with fantasy moments brings his theme of the search for Truth directly into focus – a common ground to which everyone can relate. A bit of serendipity and a dollop of spiritualism imbues this story as four disparate people invite entry into the quest for truth: Henry, Phoebe, Portia and Bernard are joined in context by angels Gabriel and Michael, all in the setting of quiet London locales. Much of the impact of the story is rendered in picturesque encounters, such as the initial meeting of young Henry and the older gentleman Bernard, as Henry sits on a bench in Regent’s Park: ‘He was lost in his thoughts and now interested in watching an Italian-looking younger woman. “May I sit here?” His head turned to see an old man with silver hair. The man was smiling at him and was waiting for a response. Henry wanted to be alone, but he was too polite to refuse the request. “Go for it,” he muttered, and he deliberately didn’t make eye contact and carried on looking ahead,’ Thus Henry meets Bernard who quotes the poetry of Keats, stirring Henry’s imagination, and that special moment opens the portal for the four characters (and angels!) searching for Truth.

Beautifully written, this lyrical story is volume one of a promised diptych – and we can only imagine how the poetic pace with progress. Bernard is the Agent of the Truth and the interplay with the four characters is memorable and satisfying, challenging our own perceptions and views in a most positive way. Very highly recommended.

This is the story of four people living in London, Bernard, Phoebe, Portia, and Henry. Fate brought these four different people together, and there are great plants for them. There are different point of views in this story which help move it along and keep it interesting, however it might be confusing for some people who don't like constantly changing point of view. There is also a narrator, Who comes in here and there, and this enriches the story someone. What I would have liked to seen from the author, which might help with the Outreach to other people and interest, is Flushing out the synopsis a little bit more so that people can fully understand what the story is about. I'm looking forward to seeing the second part of the story and how Bernard will live up to his mission.

Truth by Simon Bardwell is one of those books that have unique plots and themes. Told in multiple point of views, the story centered around four different characters who eventually intertwined in the city of London. I love the conversations shared by the characters. Everyone has different takes and it's nice to live in their minds. The story was filled with thought-provoking, deep, and meaningful dialogues which made me reflect from time to time. I love the writing style of the author as well. It made me feel intrigued as to how the story would unfold in the end. Over all, I had a pleasure in reading the author's work. I am looking forward to see more what he has in store.
