1,0 de 5 estrellas Interesting book but creates impression of no hope for CHANGE
Compra verificada
I will advise this book to understand that for USA to 'CHANGE' will not be easy. Although the Author,Zbigniew Brzezinski-ZB is very experienced, knowledgable and well respected famous elite American, but he holds himself not changed and unimproved conceptually and keeps staying as old-fashioned. Whenever any other country or the region is remarkably progressing then it is assumed by him, as this country could become one of America's principal competitor in global political influence and even eventually in economic and military might. To deal with geopolitics worldwide has made gains earlier for USA, due to involvement in 1rst,2nd World Wars, although American people had paid much during corresponding decades. Further, consequences of Vietnam War and latter Iraq and Afghanistan Invasions, after cold war had ended, were totaly negative for American people's social and economical benefits for which ZB confesses the same in his book.I presume,it is not a fair attitude, at least against his own American people, to introduce and tackle worldwide and/or regionally expected conflicts or awfull scenarios which definetely increase the antipathy to America, as already occured up to now in almost half of the world. While having existing serious inhouse liabilities of America such as 'Huge National Debt, Flawed Financial System, Widening Social Inequality, Decaying Infrastructure, Public Ignorance, Gridlock Politics and Crucial Unemployement-(ZB)' are being to be taken care of, wouldn't be better to leave the other nations and regions alone, to solve by themselves, their own occured/occuring conflicts between them and not to spend any time of American's governments and money of US taxpayers. Instead, it will be far useful for American people to utilize America's own assets which are 'Overall Economic Strength,Innovative Potential,Demographic Dynamics,Reactive Mobilization,Confort of Geographic Base and Democratic Appeal-(ZB)'. The other nations will normally buy and/or get use of these very valuable assets and then American people will make further benefits out of them. By having '600 billion usd Current Account Balance Deficit(2011) and close to 15 trillion usd National Debt-(CIA World Factbook)', now isn't it the time for elites like ZB to perform efforts to guide and convince American people how to spend less, save more, work hard and invest wisely. As being the largest and sole power of the world,if USA wants to care its 'National Interests' and further to contribute for the other nations and world humankind, better to cooperate with the other nations to find solutions, only to secure nuclear non-proliferation and to solve global environmental problems together.
I don't agree with ZB's ethics. His 'highly ignorant public about the world-(ZB)' the American people who is, according to my opinion fully innocent and is not responsible and do not have any obligation to pay for his and his type of conservative elites' very long term projections about the destiny of USA and other nations.I advise the book but with one star only.

5,0 de 5 estrellas Simply: It is "Tour De Force".

At a reasonable high level, the author gives a scholarly summary of the evolution of the USA foreign policies. He identifies, with honesty and sincerity, what he considers the domestic challenges facing 21st-USA. He scans the World polities and international relations over the past 200 years. He draws attention to the Eurasia Heartland geopolitical importance (drawing on the 1905-geopolitical philosophies of MacKinder). He presents scenarios for a very constructive USA foreign policies in Europe and Asia. In his updated conclusions, he deals with the current three hot issues facing the global community.
Dr. Brzezinski draws heavily on his European heritage (and early upbringing), his illustrious career as National Security Advisor, in looking well beyond the Continental USA.
I hope that the intellectual and political establishment, within the decion-making and laymen alike, in the USA and beyond, carefully read this book more than one time. It contains gems of political acumen and well articulated / formulated wisdom, for a peaceful 21st Globe.
I liked the book. I have just sent a copy to a very close friend.

WOW. If you want to 'get a glimpse behind the curtain' this is a great book.

Zbigniew Brzezinski is an American patriot through-and-through; his love for this country is manifest in almost every sentence. He spares no criticism however. He does an excellent job 'placing' the USA in this moment in history: giving the reader a good 'sense' of where we've come from, where we are; where the world is going from a global/political standpoint. He laments lost opportunities and squandering of goodwill over the last 20yrs or so; but offers a road map and hope for the future as well.

Most interesting to me was his strategic analysis of the 'competitor' countries to the USA for global influence. In a nutshell, there is no 'heir apparent' for the 'next' dominant global superpower. There will be 'powers' but no single player can bring power& influence to the negotiating table the way the USA did for most of the 20th century. This analysis alone (Russia, China, UK, etc) was worth the price & reading of the book.

RECOMMENDED for the concerned citizen. Buy it, read it, talk about it, vote with it.

5,0 de 5 estrellas A forceful, cogent view of America’s role in the world

A late-in life summary statement by one of the world’s leading political scientists of international relations, this former Secretary of State (Carter Administration) forcefully and clearly presents what might be called a moderately left of center view of how the United States should best approach the coming years and decades. His policy recommendations are coherent, thoughtful and easy to summarize: do almost precisely the opposite of what Trump has done in Trump’s first three and a half years.

3,0 de 5 estrellas Not as good as The Grand Chessboard
Revisado en Canadá 🇨🇦 el 17 de noviembre de 2013

Strategic vision lacks the depth and insight of Brzezinski's The Grand Chessboard which I felt totally enlightened me into strategies of global power politics. He spends a lot of time describing such self evident things like the political awakening of the people and Americal loosing it foothold as the world's leading superpower. I do enjoy his insights on where the world is going in the next 15-20 years and what roles the EU, Russia and China will play. Brzezinski is clearly a brilliant strategist but this book pales in comparison to The Grand Chessboard.

If you are new to researching geopolitics I recommend building your background in history with Carroll Quigley's "Tragedy and Hope". If I didn't read this I would not have been able to put a lot of what Brzenzski describes in his books into context.

In a world of the 24 hour news cycle, we tend to get lost in the responses to single issues of the hour (not even the day anymore it seems). It is good to step back and for a few minutes look at how these daily events connect into long term processes that have predictable results. Dr. Brzezinski's ability to tie these together, propose a world view that is one logical possibility, reasonably based upon past experience, provides us with an opportunity to consider the future results of our current actions, or lack of these, that will ultimately define our children's world. Whether his view turns out to be completely right or not, it does provide a framework to promote important discussion of where today's actions could take us. This book is an important opportunity to think beyond the horizon and consider the possibilities, both positive or negative.

Offers a experienced view on geopolitics, although somewhat pessimistic. I have read more in-depth geopolitical essays than this, but not bad.

Brzezinski is usually on the mark whenever he talks about foreign policy. Love listening to him when he is on MSNBC. Love watching his daughter Mica there also. Perhaps because many of his thinking mirrors mine, I am reading with great pleasure his newest book. Unfortunately the Congress has their heads in the sand and only concerned about their local constituents. Obama knows what's at stake for the U.S. globally and very likely agrees with many of Brzezonski's thinking. Unfortunately there are not many internationalists at the Capital. Don't they know what's good for the world is good for America too? They created the financial crisis and the two recent wars and unless we act wisely, history will repeat itself.
