Chicago 1929. Gamaschen-Colombo, Anführer einer Gangsterbande, hat soeben einen Verräter "beseitigt". Dumm für die beiden arbeitslosen Musiker Joe und Jerry, dass sie unfreiwillig dem Massaker zusehen mussten. Um den rücksichtslosen Gangstern zu entkommen, verkleiden sie sich als Frauen und heuern bei einer Mädchenkapelle an. Diese ist gerade auf dem Weg ins sonnige Florida. Dass die beiden "Damen" sich als solche recht wohl fühlen, dafür sorgt die unmittelbare Nähe von Sugar. Sie ist die allesbetörende Ukulelespielerin der Band. Verständlich, dass es nicht allzulange dauert, bis sich eine der beiden gehörig in Sugar verliebt.

Six decades after its creation, Some Like It Hot still remains - and by far at that - the best comedy ever made. Drawing equally from the best heritage of screwball, gangster actions and bottomless intelligence and humour of its creator Billy Wilder, the movie's crisp, naughtily gender-bending story is totally satisfying on so many levels; brings the villains to jail, lovers together and everything else where it belongs. Boasting the notoriously clever and funny one-liners and deft gags, the film is able to endure many repeated viewings, becoming everything from guilty pleasures to holiday classics. Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis star, but willingly let Marilyn Monroe shine in her best role, where she (as in another Wilder classic, The Seven Year Itch) proves she was indeed the Actress - despite her emotional troubles during the shooting, that later on went from bad to worse. Still, we have this gem of a film to keep.
The special edition includes a half-hour, very informative interview of Leonard Maltin with Tony Curtis. It is full of trivia. The DVD also includes a nostalgic footage consisting of photos from the set and of the main stars and director, plus a 2001 interview with four members of the female orchestra led by Sweet Sue.

Not only a classic but arguably the funniest film ever made. And by a classic I mean it can be viewed time and again with pleasure. The director Billy Wilder showed his versatility by also making the superb Double Indemnity and the brilliant Sunset Boulevard. Some Like It Hot is quite a long film, nearly 2 hours, and more amusing, I find, when watched in two parts (so that one brings fresh energy to the ending), so the ideal format is VHS where one can pick up directly where one left off. Many don't have video machines anymore, but I'd recommend this format for this film if you do.

Yes, hard to say anything that hasn't been said before. A classic, a movie deserving of that elusive Amazon Sixth Star.

Perhaps a word or two about the oddly-named I.A.L. Diamond, for his incomparable script. Apart from the great one-liners, he offers a plot intricate enough to vie with the best of Chandler; and a sense of desperation and wish-fulfilment wearing the mask of comedy. Don't miss it!

The premise of this movie sounds ludicrous, two men witness the St. Valentines day massacre and disguise themselves as women to avoid getting whacked. However the script is amazingly hilarious and the actors performances so remarkable that this blasphemous thought is forgotten within seconds, never to be thought of again.

To avoid the mafia Tony Curtis (a.k.a. Josephine) and Jack Lemmon (a.k.a. Daphne) join an all girl band and head to Florida where they plan to make a swift exit. However Cutis's character falls for the ukulele player, Sugar Kane played by Marilyn Monroe so he disguises himself as Shell Oil Junior and sets about winning her over. Meanwhile Daphne (Lemmon) plays with the idea of letting the rich Osgood the lll make an honest women out of him, after all a gal needs security.

This comedy puts to shame comedies from recent eras. There are simply too many sharp and witty lines to pick a favourite but Curtis's accent he uses for Sugar to disguise his voice is absolutely hilarious!

Curtis and Lemmon play well of each other and give their characters very different qualities that compliment each others comedic style. As always, Marilyn shines in every scene she's in.

This DVD also features interviews with the girls who played the rest of Sweet Sues band and Tony Curtis. Tony Curtis's interview is particularly interesting with cute little stories about Monroe, Lemmon and Wilder.

I cannot recommend this DVD highly enough!

It's been voted over the years as best comedy of all the, it's just so funny and the more times you see it the more funny it gets as there are parts that slip past its as if it was made to make you watch it time and time again. Brilliant acting brilliant dialogue
