Love the phone but not as tough as I had hoped, fell out of my pocket & screen smashed even with the glass screen protector on it. Seems a replacement screen will cost as much as the phone did, only had since June!
Initial verdict is that this will be perfect for my first-time smartphone user partner.... With an aqua attraction for water ingress issues :-P I've a Note 4 and I like using this baby dimensioned device. I only saw the VE newer model *afterwards* and regretted the fact is only 4.4.2 android, not 4G and "only" 1.2GHz on the quad cores.... I needn't have worried... Marshmallow 6.0.1 with 1.3GHz clock speed and 4G LTE capable... Cushty. Screen is vibrant and stands up well to my Sammy device, battery took an age of 3.5 days to get down to 52% (albeit light usage) after first charge, switching to ultra mode would see another 2.5 days squeezed out, a few more charges will season and mature usage and using it properly should give it a decent coupe of days.... Lower screen resolution and compact 4.5" helps the battery. Feels good in the hand, case and tempered glass protector on will surely add strength to an already sturdy offering. Not too big for her more dainty of hands than my shovels, always said she *hated* smartphones and would never have one... Brave girl, and proved right to dip her toe. Storage the only drawback, 8GB and over half used for the operating system, Samsung 32GB Class 10 will help. Nippy to move between screens, especially if you enable Developer Options and turn off transitions etc. Camera is a good performer, would only have wanted 16:9 option for perfection. Only flaw so far is the Active Key not turning on the Torch or camera after its been on standby for a minute or two.... Alternate double tap on home key activates camera quickly. It's already benefited from an Android software update so that's future-proofing it. We'll put the SIM card in when confidence is higher.... Very happy with the product... Shame Amazon delivered it outside the wrong house but still confirmed it was signed for by my partner????😅 Recovered and not lost. Happy customer.
This worked fine for a while, but then it would lose contact by call or text - this appeared to be random, but once contact lost it wouldn't come back. The real problem being that it showed full signal and no problems, and so we wouldn't know it was not contactable until someone told us. We replaced the sim, but same problem. It could be fixed with a restart, but as I mentioned, we wouldn't know when it was working and when it wasn't. Had to replace.
I bought the phone on the the Thursday pm and on the Monday i was told it would be delivered between 1200 - 1300. The delivery driver arrived at 1300 pm with my new phone the only thing missing was the instructions on how to use it. That made me more determined to find out about it. I was like a kid again on Christmas morning once you figure out the basics the rest you find out through trial or error. the phone itself is bottom heavy so its not so easy to fall out of your top pocket however i bought the silicone case and the screen protector which gives it a better feel and handling. The other bonus is the torch at the x cover switch. Being waterproof and Dustproof was the one for me as being a tradesman and working with water coupled with the price for the latest smartphone which can only be viewed on youtube in German. My advice is watch the video on youtube and decide for yourself. Its the new tradesmans phone which can only be bought online because it has not hit the shops yet.
Had this phone about a week now and I'm very happy with it. I decided to go back to an Android phone after a brief flirtation with a Windows device and I wanted something rugged that I wasn't afraid to get dirty or wet when I'm out and about. I had to buy it unseen (although O2 and Vodaphone sell the phone, they don't stock it and quote 2 weeks delivery time) but I wasn't disappointed with the looks....a handsome machine!! It feels really nice in the hand with a secure grip especially in gloved hands. It does all the usual Android stuff but has raised buttons on the front for the home key etc and a nice assignable button on the side (torch first press, then camera if you hold it as default) again, good for gloved hands. Overall, very impressed. Ian B
rSAP means this phone will connect to your VW group car so you can use the data for Google maps or streaming internet radio. A big bonus for me is that it will still allow data connection over 2G e.g. in rural areas. Sony for example no longer allow this and assume the everyone outside 3G coverage only needs voice and SMS. The Xcover 3 will last over 3.5 days on its ultra power saving mode, so with a spare battery for £10 you can keep going for a week and you can keep Bluetooth connected in that low-power mode if you need to. OK, so the on-board memory isn't massive but it's sufficient for some essential apps. Just wish I'd got one sooner...
Great. Smartphone I'm not afraid to use (I work outdoors). I would say if you are considering the xcover, you probably know what they are, else go look them up. Pleased with the phone, battery seems to hold up well enough, down to 92% after a normal day of light use (texts, a few calls).
Screen is sharp enough. Won't be watching films on it, that's what the laptop/tablet are for. It's a phone, a smartphone, for people who don't need super specs but want something reliable and good looking that will survive being dropped in a stream or muddy bank. Not worried about carrying it on me and not feeling ashamed when it's on the desk. Also considered the Cat15Q, liking it so far (I also have other samsung stuff though)
My phone went wrong after just 9 months. After looking at it Samsung declared an unspecified software had damaged the motherboard and invalidated my warranty. I have no idea what they are talking about and nor do they because that is all the diagnostic machine will telll them. They offered a repair that cost £20 more than the original phone costs new. If I want it back l have to give them £20. That is the last Samsung product l will ever buy
I have to date been extreamly happy with this phone. It's my first smart phone and has been easy to learn and easy to live with. In my trade which is based outdoors and can be very dusty, it would seam to put up with this kind of treatment unlike my friends iPhones etc. It may not be the most upto date but the built features seem quite good and work more than well enough for day to day use. Battery life seem to be good for a smart phone and lasts for two days with light to medium use. For £150 you can't go to far wrong.
