Without wanting to put in any spoilers, Greg makes an interesting career choice, encouraged by Stu. There are a few funny moments with this new career especially when Greg becomes Eric the Milkman (he’s not really a milkman!).
Greg also meets Louise – a girl he knows in passing and they start a relationship. However, towards the end of the book we discover that Louise has a secret. This part of the book was a real let down for me. I couldn’t really see why her secret was such a secret that she would break up with Greg without at least telling him. Its not a scandalous secret and I couldn’t really imagine a character who was falling for Greg to make this such an issue.
Whilst pursuing his new career, Greg is also trying to write a book. There are a couple of passages in the book that tell the story that he is writing. I felt this went on for too long – the book he is writing is sci-fi and it went on for a couple of pages in more than 1 chapter and I have no interest in reading sci-fi so found this really dragged. It could have been done in a lot less.
Overall this is lad-lit and it was interesting to read about relationships from the male perspective. There were a few funny moments and it was a nice story but didn’t get me hooked on the characters enough to really care about them.
Oh, and there are a lot of spelling/grammar errors in the book – things like words round the wrong way and us instead of is etc. This didn’t make the story unreadable but did mean that a couple of times I had to re-read things to make sure I had got the right understanding.

I found his internal dialog really funny, typical English humour. Also reading a romantic (ish) book written by a male writer was really entertaining and telling. I, like many other women no doubt always wonder what's going on it guys minds, especially as they are expected to be making the first move, but they apparently feel equally awkward.
Great book, light read, will check out other books from the same author. Recommended.

So, we meet Greg, who arrives home early from a work seminar to find his girlfriend of 8 years has left him, taken his dog, and going by the photographs she's left behind, has been having an affair. He also loses his job the next day and seeks solace with his long time friend Stu. Stu opens him up to the world of dating and Greg meets Louise in a club, the girl who has served him his coffee on the way to work every day. Stu however, has always kept his job a secret, but is never sort of a few quid. Stu reinvents Greg with a makeover as "Eric" and introduces him to his profession of escorting. So we follow "Eric" through his escorting escapades, his faltering relationship with Louise, the complications from his ex-girlfriend, and his attempts at writing a novel.
I'd never heard of Rob Radcliffe and it's not the sort of book I usually go for but I did enjoy reading it. It's not a laugh out loud book but it was funny in parts. The next one in the series is "The Barman" and I'll probably read that too. "Checking Out" was free as well so I've downloaded that to read.

Greg has found out his wife has had an affair leaving photographic evidence of her adultery all over their bedroom, sure its his boss he confronts and punches him only to find out its a case of mistaken identity. What does a man do when he loses both wife and job? He becomes and escort of course with the help and advice of his best friend Stu who is already a very successful escort himself. What follows is so funny I laughed almost to the point of tears.
If you want to have a good laugh this is a must read..what are you waiting for??

I'm not giving the plot away like some of the others have. Just trust me and get it. It's a nice easy read with some laugh out loud moments. Good down to earth humour and written from a male perspective. On the strength of Meat Market, i've got all of Rob's books - even the ones I had to pay for (see i'm not that tight really) I like to find new talent and this is his debut novel and I hope, for him, it's the beginning of an amazing journey.
