According to "Which" this child seat does not meet the very latest safety standards as regards side impact protection. That said, it meets all of the previous standards and is 100% legal in the EU and the UK. It is also, probably the best selling child car seat of all time and has not had any product recalls that I am aware of. Nearly all reviews on nearly all sites are very positive.
So, I had a bit of a dilemma as we only need a child seat for our 4yo grandson - and will use it briefly once a fortnight. As such, I was somewhat loathe to pay a fortune - we did that for his previous group 0/1 seat and got very little use out of it.
He is very tall for his age so it won't be long before we only need the booster seat function (and detach the back and sides anyway)! We will position it on the central rear seat - for a number of reasons, not least, safety....
Anyway, we opted for this child seat and our grandson is chuffed to bits! He likes the colour (red), the cup holders, the arm rests and sitting in the middle of the car!
There are certainly better quality and better padded child seats available - but not in this price range. He has not complained of any discomfort and readily nods off 💤💤💤
The seat is light, easily fitted and can be easily moved between seats or cars. Routing and using the car seatbelt is straightforward - and it appears to be very secure. So, no issues there.
Assembly was straightforward but do follow the instructions as a couple of steps aren't obvious - notably the requirement to remove 2 screws to allow adjustment of the armrests. Fitting the seat back to the base does require a bit of force. Under the seat there are handy clips to store the instruction booklet (and not lose it).
So, overall, we are very pleased. If we were going to use a child seat every day and on long journeys, we'd probably have spent more. The price is very reasonable and the seat does what we require of it.
The safety aspect is interesting. "Which" should state that side impact protection is largely irrelevant once the seat back is no longer required and just the seat base (booster) is used. That's also true if the seat is sited in the car middle rear position (assuming that position has a full 3-point and not just a 2-point "lap" belt).....
