Vera might come across as incompetent at times, but she knows exactly what is happening. In the Glass Room book Vera has been persuaded to look for the wife of her hippy neighbour who has gone missing. Even though Vera is busy, she agrees to take on the task of finding her female neighbour. Once Vera arrives at the house the problems start - there has been a murder and her neighbour has been accused of carrying out the deed. Vera takes on the case.
If you have seen the television series, then you need to read the books. The books fill in all the details and add the humour which is sadly lacking from the television series.
For me the storyline didn't flow, it felt as if someone else had been asked to write a Vera story & I felt cheated by it.
Yes it had the main characters & yes there was the murder committed that Vera would solve. But there the comparison to a normal Ann Cleeves / Vera ended.
Such a shame but it won't stop me reading more.
The story itself wasn’t that gripping. It feels like the author has run out of steam and that coupled with the woman hating characterisation ensures I’m never reading another book but this author.
