Sale James Fraser. ¿Qué más quieres?

1,0 de 5 estrellas Disappointment and betrayal

I'm new to the Outlander series. I read the 6 previous books in the series this summer. I just ordered and received Echo in the Bone. I could not wait to get it. I love the characters of Jamie and Claire and their relationship, their enduring love.

I am one of these people who read the end of a book first. Normally when I start a new book, I read the beginning until I learn the characters then I go to the end. If the ending is good, I normally can't wait to read the rest of the book to see how it got to the end.

I didn't have to start at the beginning with this book. I cound not wait to find out what happened with Jamie and Claire. I went straight to the last few chapters. I won't mention the details but I felt saddened, disappointed, hurt, angry, betrayed when I read the end of Echo in the Bone. I don't think I want to read the rest of it. What is the point? My one star rating is based solely on the ending.

I am re-reading Voyager now also. I am to the point of Jamie and Claire's reunion. I could read that part over and over again and never get tired of it. How could Echo in the Bone end the way it does after all the Jamie and Claire characters have been through together.

I guess I like fairy tale endings and Echo in the Bone is not a fairy tale ending. It was sloppy and will leave you hanging off a cliff, too many unresolved issues. I hope there will be another book that will resolve the open issues. But I fear Ms. Gabaldon doesn't care.

1,0 de 5 estrellas Enough Already!

I first read the Outlander Series about 10 years ago, and then when I saw something mentioned about the show, I went back and started rereading them.. I also purchased books 6 and 7 of this series. Sadly I will not purchase Book 8 or anything else to do with the Outlander series. These books have gotten way too long and way off base. Outlander is and should always be a LOVE STORY between Jamie and Claire, but the author has gotten way too bogged down into details and drawing other characters around. As I reread the books, and as I read book 7, I found myself skipping page after page of drawn out like details and stuff that didn't pertain to the basic story. I don't understand why she went off on a time line with Willie Grey at all. And honestly, can Claire and Jamie not live happily ever after. It seems like every other page is some tragedy or incident that happens to them. Yes, I know this is fiction, but honestly, there is not that much drama in a persons life and if there is, they are extremely unlucky! And as many times as theyhave been hurt, etc. they should be dead. It's just gotten ridiculous. Enough already!

I have devoured all of the previous Outlander series books, but this one was quite a different book. It felt as if it was written by a completely different author. The story line dragged on and on seemingly with no point. Some sections were so boring that I just fast forwarded heaps of pages. As dedicated readers invested in Jamie & Claire and then who grew to love Brianna & Roger, why is most of this book now about William and Lord John Grey? Where I would read the other books in a few days or a week tops, this book took me more than 4 months to wade through. As others have mentioned, the storyline is confusing with times not matching up, many detailed sections of the book seem absolutely pointless and I have a hard time understanding why I should care about William or Grey. Both of their parts should have been minimal in this book with more focus on Jamie & Claire and Brianna & Roger. I like the idea of the letter reading and the two sets of main characters being in different times and yet still communicating so to speak, but the focus of this book seemed to be on William and Grey and I found those sections both painfully difficult to read and quite boring. I am quite disillusioned by this series now. I hope her next book makes up for this dismal interjection in the series.

I love the book but when I was reading I discovered the last 50 pages are all out of order. I didn't realize in time and Amazon says my window to replace the item is closed. I am very frustrated with this. I want a proper book!

Wow - I cannot believe I waited years for this! I love the Outlander series and feel utterly letdown after reading this book. First, the pacing was terrible. The first 2/3 of the book were slow and Jamie and Claire were barely mentioned until the second half. Once it does finally get going the ending is slammed in with no real ending at all. At first, I thought my Kindle didn't download the whole thing. The editing is awful. There is WAY too much about John Grey and other incidental characters we don't really care about. But the absolute limit to my patience came when DG had Claire and John having sex just weeks after Jaime's "supposed" death! What the f@%!* Are you kidding me!? I was disgusted and angry. That was so unbelievably out of character for Claire (and Lord John) and cheapend the whole book (as if it wasn't bad enough already.) I really hope that in DG's next installment that she gets back to the relationship of Jaime and Claire and their adventures. Their love story is what got people hooked on the series in the first place. This book was a complete departure from everything that was good in the earlier books of the series and not worth the read.

I'm just totally discombobulated after reading reading Echo. Normally I'm stuck into Ms. Gabaldon's books from the time I open them and all life grinds to a halt, but this one, while engaging, didn't grab me. I got through it and loved the fleshing out of the new characters, but the end left me...... confused. It just wasn't there. None of the story lines were completed, and I felt I was left hanging, not knowing where any of the characters were headed or even were. I was very disappointed with the ending, and I can just hope that this was Part I of Echo, and am avidly awaiting Part II so I can find out what happens to the storylines!
I am so sorry to have to give Ms. Gabaldon a poor review. This just did not reach her usual standard, nor indeed was it anywhere near it. She seemed to lose focus in the latter third of the book and gave up on it. After finishing the book I was lost, because the characters were lost! The stories were just not finished! I was in a state of disbelief when I finished the book, because I was sure that I'd been given a defective book until I read the other reviews and found others with similar experiences. Please, Ms. Gabaldon, finish the book for us, your loyal fans!

1,0 de 5 estrellas A long slog and ends with cliff-hangers.

If you're reading the series, you have no choice but to read this one (#7) -- but it's a long slog with lots of tangents going into detail about things not directly related to the story line. Most frustrating is the last 50 or 100 pages (of 800+) introduced several new plot lines (Jem kidnapped and Brianna left confronting the kidnapper while Roger is in the wrong century, Clare sleeping with Lord John, etc.) and the book simply ends with all of these unresolved. The book could have ended well, but Gabaldon went for the cliff-hanger -- as if she knew we were getting tired of the massive books and had to do something to manipulate us into reading just one more (the cynic in me wonders if she's paid by the word or page). She's an excellent writer and I felt starting several new threads and then simply stopping was beneath her -- The old "Same Bat Time, same Bat Channel" teaser approach is not what I expected from her.

Each of the books in the Outlander series causes havoc in my life because I can't put them down until I am done reading the whole book. Unfortunately, this book did not follow suite, taking me several weeks to read as it was completely disappointing and boring. Talk about choppy chapters, way too many characters that weren't developed and history that droned on and on with information that I learned back in elementary school. Where was the passion of the characters from the previous books and why were Jamie and Claire given only minor roles? This book was an introduction to sell her new Lord Grey book coming out in 2010 - come on! What about the inconsistencies from the previous books - I kept going back to them to make sure I hadn't forgotten a story. Jamie on the ocean not having seasickness; Claire sleeping with Lord Grey - get real; and taking ¾ of the book to get them to Scotland and then only spending a few pages on that part of the story. Who wrote this book and better yet, who edited it. Wish I could get my money back!!

1,0 de 5 estrellas Utterly awful

Echo was pretty much the exact opposite of the rest of the books in the Outlander series (with the possible exception of The Fiery Cross):

- it was painful to read, and most times found myself not even paying attention to the pages, having to go back to re-read and find out what just happened
- awful character development - even Jamie & Claire's relationship seemed stale and recycled
- the writing seemed forced and lacked the genuine feel of the previous books
- there were too many story lines involved, which made it hard to get into or care about any of them
- very disappointed that we finally got to meet Jamie's son and as it turned out he's super boring

Many reviewers have complained about the cliffhanger at the end. It didn't bother me that much, as at that point, I was just glad the book was finally OVER.

But, I am crossing my fingers that the next (and hopefully) last installment of the Outlander series will once again be a story that I can't put down.
